Shelter
Among the various basic needs of sanitation, shelter is definitely a vital component. Across the world, 50,000 persons die every day due to a lack of sanitation, polluter water or shelter, on an average. This challenge is further accelerated in developing countries such as India. In fact, constructing a house is not the only aim of Our Happiness Foundation. We are also involved in the provision of electricity, hygienic drinking water, roads, proper sewage disposal systems, and more.
There are shelters that we set up to enhance medical conditions of the poor. For example, the treatment of HIV-infected children and elders has been made possible by setting up a separate tailor-made shelter. A team of staff is present 24/7 here to manage the conditions of patients here and adhere to their needs. We also create awareness on how even patients with HIV can live normal lives. It is true that many of these persons do not get adequate care and attention at home, and so we bring them out of their closets.
Night shelters are available at our NGO and other locations. Blankets, durries, toilets, water and electricity are provided here. Our staff helps manage entries and keep the night shelters clean under all conditions. In fact, it is also the duty of our staff to motivate people to shift from sleeping in the open to these shelters.
We would like to mention here that it is not just humans, but also animals that we take care of, at Our Happiness Foundation. There are many animals such as dogs and cats which are abandoned by their human families to fend for themselves, and most often than not, they are found in deplorable conditions. We are in partnership with a place that serves both as an animal shelter as well as a veterinary hospital. This centre is located within easy access of every city we are present in. Animals present here usually recuperate from sickness or injuries. For this reason, we have team members trained in handling different kinds of animals.
